At 20, a hiker survives more than a month alone in nature at -20°C

A true miracle. This Tuesday, a young hiker who had been missing for more than a month was found safe and sound – or almost – in British Columbia (Canada) after having survived on his own in the forest, reports the BBC. The authorities had given up hope of finding him alive.

The 20-year-old young man was reported missing on October 19. Having left for a 10-day trip between fishing and hiking in Redfern Keily Park, he stopped giving news to his loved ones after a few days. Significant ground and air search resources were used to find him.

At the end of October, the police ended the search and the young man's relatives lost hope of finding him alive. But this Tuesday, two people driving in the park discovered the victim walking on the side of a road. The young hiker was immediately recognized, taken care of and hospitalized.

The victim has not yet been able to recount her entire misadventure but according to initial information, she simply got lost during her hike. After staying in his car for a few days, the young man camped for 10 to 15 days near a creek. He then descended into the valley, where he set up camp using a tarp and some camping equipment he had with him.

Temperatures gradually dropped to -20°C in the region, pushing hikers to cut up their sleeping bags to make leg protection. “These are very difficult conditions to survive in,” confirmed the leader of a research team. “Even someone with a lot of experience would find it difficult. »
