The statistic from yesterday’s match is clearly the fact that CH only shot 13 times at the Utah club’s net last night. Needless to say, it didn’t end with a W.
CH was relatively opportunistic by scoring twice and pushing the match into overtime. But in almost five minutes of three against three, with open play, CH did not shoot.
It gets annoying at times.
Those who followed the match saw that CH only had 12 shots before the start of overtime compared to 28 for the opponents. Not shooting three-on-three would have meant tying the franchise “record” of 12 shots in a game.
The CH did not shoot, but a 13th shot was added to the recount. This is still the lowest total since 2009 for the Canadian.
After shooting only 17 times against Vegas on Saturday, let’s say Martin St. Louis’ club chose the wrong time not to shoot. Doing it at home, once again, is hard to accept.
At the end of the first and at the start of the second, the CH also spent almost 20 minutes without shooting. Ark.
18 minutes without shooting… 13 shots in total… no shots in power play… no overtime shot… if CH had wanted to sabotage their match, they would surely have taken that path.
Cole Caufield (3), Alex Newhook (2), Christian Dvorak (2), Emil Heineman, Jake Evans, Kirby Dach, Joshua Roy, Jayden Struble and Justin Barron were all credited with a shot.
It’s not normal to have time to list them one by one.
But here’s what strikes me the most: yesterday, Brendan Gallagher dealt 10 shoulder blows to his opponents. That’s only three fewer than Flannel’s number of shots.
The one who had trouble during the match with Mikhail Sergachev increased his total from 16 to 26 this season.
The guys need to take inspiration from the Gallaghers of this world who always give their all during matches. This is how the CH will find its way back to victory and – above all – respectability.
