Alliance of Civilizations: Under the leadership of HM the King, Morocco did not just praise dialogue, it embodied it (Bourita)

Quoting the words of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in His Message addressed to the participants in 9th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, Nasser Bourita recalled that the Kingdom is mobilizing within the Alliance “for reasons consubstantial with its identity” and “reasons inherent to its commitments”. Moroccoin the words of His Majesty, “promotes openness as a culture of peace”, “lives religion as an instrument of peace” and “works for development as a pillar of peace”, recalled the minister . So, “His Majesty King Mohammed VI says: the future is built with outstretched hands, not with clenched fists”, continued Mr. Bouritaensuring that for the Morocco “this future passes throughAfrica“.

The minister stressed that theAfricaa living promise for itself and for the world; Africa, a melting pot of so many issues: youth, climate, food security, migration and interreligious dialogue, is also a “land of solutions“, with the reservoir of the vitality of humanity and the growth of the world. To this continent of all hopes, l’Alliance must reach out more, he said, regretting that Africa is under-represented within the Alliance, with only 20% of the members of the Group of Friends, of which barely 15% are sub-Saharan. “This strategic inequity leaves a blind spot on an essential perspective,” he said.

More than a simple repair, the Morocco calls for building a real geopolitics of solidarity, on the other hand, supported Mr. Bourita, noting that the Alliance of Civilizations is the appropriate enclosure, since it can forge ethical consensusparticularly in the face of climatic, humanitarian, health and technological challenges. Organized under the theme “restoring confidence and shaping the future”, this 10th edition questions two decades of dialogue, to mobilize around a common ideal, namely peace. However, according to Mr. Bourita, “this ideal is cracked on all sides.”

“Too often, injustice spreads and extremes collide, too often, terrorism rallies the separatismin the illusory hope of prospering together and too often, war exhausts without ever tiring: in Europe, in Africa, in Middle East“, he lamented. “And during this time, the climate change defies the future and despises a humanity which hardly dares to fight it”. In this tragic enumeration, the situation in Gaza and more widely in Palestine and in Lebanon, embodies these fractures that the Alliance was precisely created to bridge, he said.

Thus, the International community must act with all its strength, the Alliance in the lead, “not as another institution, but as a universal conscience in the face of a universal peril”, recommended the minister. In 20 years of existence, l’Alliance has proven itself through a series of meetings in the four corners of the world and at each stage, “Morocco has not just praised dialogue, it has embodied it,” he underlined. .

So he recalled Jerusalem Calllaunched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Pope Francis, in March 2019, the Parliamentary conference on interfaith dialoguefrom June 2022 in Marrakech, and the Fez Declaration of November 2022, serving as sentinel against extremism. The minister also recalled the Rabat Action Plan against incitement to national, racial and religious hatred, and the proclamation of June 18 as “International Day Against Hate Speech“, the fruit of an initiative brought by Morocco to the UN General Assembly.

Mr. Bourita concluded by expressing Morocco’s satisfaction with the opening, on December 6, of the Chair of the Alliance of Civilizations of Euromed University of Fez. “This Chair sustainably anchors Morocco to the Alliance and the Alliance to Morocco.”
