Reduction in the ecological bonus, the government wants to move quickly

The decision was expected. We now know to what extent the ecological bonus, this aid for the purchase of an electric car, will decrease. Its entry into force was expected on January 1. It will ultimately be in the coming days.

We knew that the electric car would not be there in 2025. This is confirmed. After the disappearance of the conversion bonus and the increase in the ecological penalty, the reduction in assistance with the purchase of an electric car continues with the ecological bonus which will drop considerably.

What is the new amount of the ecological bonus?

Until now, each buyer of a new electric car benefited from a bonus of €4,000. Help also valid for LLD. The most modest households, those whose reference tax income was less than or equal to €15,400 per year, benefited from additional aid of €3,000. That's 7000€ in total. In the coming days, it will drop drastically to only €4,000! The amount of the bonus for everyone will also be reduced from €4,000 to €2,000 or €3,000, probably depending on income.

When does it come into force?

This is the very unpleasant surprise of the information obtained this Tuesday, November 26 by our colleagues from Les Echos and the daily Le Parisien. The decree implementing the reduction in the ecological bonus will be signed this week. Once signed, the measure will apply immediately. A hard blow for the industry which was undoubtedly expecting an increase in sales at the end of the year to meet its objectives.

What other supports are there for switching to an electric car?

Unfortunately, there aren't that many of them anymore. The conversion bonus will disappear. So only social leasing remains. But with a budget envelope which has increased from 1.5 billion to 700 million euros, we should not hope for a miracle. The number of French motorists who will be able to benefit from the electric car at €100 per month in 2025 will undoubtedly be very limited. We should know the details shortly. Unless the political situation gets tough.
