“It was shocking”: a Brussels resident sentenced to 6 years in prison for raping his partner and attempted rape after the Winter Games

The Nivelles criminal court on Wednesday sentenced Jimmy F., a resident of Uccle born in 1994, to six years’ imprisonment and deprived him of his civil and political rights for five years. The immediate arrest of the accused was ordered following the sentence.

Jimmy F., a thirty-year-old, was prosecuted for acts of violence and rape against his partner between 2021 and 2023, and for an attempted rape of a young girl in October 2023 outside the nightclub Les Jeux d’ Winter.

The defendant did not really contest the acts committed against his partner.

For those committed to the release of the Winter Games in Brussels, the version has changed several times. In the last, he claimed that the victim had voluntarily gotten into his car to reach his, parked ten minutes’ walk away. As she had fallen asleep in the meantime, he took the E411 motorway and headed towards Wavre, where he wanted to abandon the victim on a path and then come back and steal her car from the Winter Games.

I was afraid he would come home

The court considers that this version is not credible. It is not proven that the victim was forced to get into the defendant’s vehicle, but then he detained her illegally, taking her to Wavre with the aim of raping her. Once the car stopped on an isolated road, the victim managed to escape. The defendant caught up with her but she hit him in the face then managed to take refuge in a nearby house.

To set the height of the sentence, the court took into account the “very serious facts”, the harmful consequences for the two victims, and the length of the offense period for the acts committed by the defendant against his ex-partner.

The sister of one of the victims spoke out after discovering the conviction: “She had already told me a little bit about everything she was going through. It was already shocking at that moment. And so, the fact of being here witnessing this judgment is really very shocking and I I felt a lot of pain for my sister and so, I am just very happy that he is going to prison and especially the immediate arrest because, honestly, if the immediate arrest had not been decided, I would. I was afraid he would come home and hurt my sister again.”
