FRENCH-SPEAKING AFRICA GETS A BILLBOARD FOR ITS

(SenePlus) – A major initiative fills a crucial void in the African industry. Africa Music & Charts, which will be officially launched on November 28, 2024 during the Dakar Biennale, aims to become the benchmark for music certifications and rankings in French-speaking Africa, according to a press release received by our editorial staff.

This project responds to a pressing need in a region where the music scene is booming. Driven by a young and connected population, French-speaking Africa is seeing the emergence of new talents while its historical musical heritage is enjoying a second life thanks to streaming platforms like YouTube. However, until now, this success remained difficult to quantify.

Africa Music & Charts intends to change the situation by establishing a certification system based on precise criteria: physical sales, streaming and downloads. An approach that aims to bring more transparency and credibility to the African music industry, both regionally and internationally.

The structure benefits from the support of an impressive professional council, bringing together major figures in the African music industry from prestigious labels such as Universal Music, Sony Music, Warner Music, but also more recent players such as Believe, IDOL, Keyzit, Bomayé Musik and Hoside.

“The launch of Africa Music & Charts sends a beautiful and strong message,” says Diadame Diaw, president of the organization. “Our mission is to bring together, promote and support this growing industry. By joining forces we will be able to structure our sector and reveal to the world the diversity and richness of our African music.”

This initiative marks an important step in the professionalization of the music industry in French-speaking Africa. By finally offering reliable data and official recognition, Africa Music & Charts could well become an essential tool for increasing the visibility of African artists on the international scene.
