“The United States and France will work with Israel and Lebanon to ensure that this arrangement is fully implemented and enforced,” the American and French presidents stressed in a joint statement, saying they were “determined to make so that this conflict does not cause a new cycle of violence.
This agreement “will protect Israel from the threat posed by Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations operating from Lebanon,” assured the two heads of state. “It will create the necessary conditions for the lasting restoration of calm and allow the safe return to their homes of residents on both sides of the Blue Line”, the demarcation line set by the UN between Lebanon and Israel, they said. affirmed.
The United States and France, which have been working for weeks on this truce, “are committed to playing a leading role in supporting international efforts to strengthen the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces and promote economic development throughout Lebanon in order to promote stability and prosperity in the region,” added the two heads of state.
Israel approved a ceasefire Tuesday evening in its war in Lebanon with Hezbollah, after more than a year of cross-border hostilities and two months of open war between the Israeli army and the powerful Lebanese armed formation, supported by Tehran.
