the new authorities set the kilogram for the 2024 season

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko announced on Tuesday a revaluation of the price of a kilogram of peanuts for the 2024-2025 marketing campaign. Now set at 305 CFA francs, this price represents an increase of 9%, or 25 francs more than the previous year, when it was 280 francs.

This decision marks an exceeding of the expectations formulated by the National Interprofessional Peanut Committee (CNIA), which had proposed a price of 290 CFA francs. During an Interministerial Council dedicated to the marketing of agricultural products, Ousmane Sonko specified that this adjustment results from an arbitration aimed at reconciling the interests of producers and those of oil manufacturers.

Towards an ambitious goal
The Prime Minister also declared that the State of Senegal aims to increase the price of a kilogram of peanuts to 500 CFA francs in the years to come. This perspective is part of a strategy of increased development of this essential sector for the national economy.

Export restrictions
At the same time, the government recently published a decree limiting or even prohibiting the export of peanuts during this agricultural season. This measure aims to guarantee the availability of the product on the national market and to strengthen local processing capacities.
