According to Toronto police, the alleged fraudster used the Facebook Marketplace platform to post fake tickets for Taylor Swift concerts in the Queen City for sale. She allegedly defrauded nearly $70,000 from 28 victims.
The accused of Burlingtona suburb of Toronto, used the alias Denise Blackhawk on Facebook, police say.
She offered on Marketplace seats for various concert dates and asked her victims, according to investigators, to pay her the full retail price in advance by electronic transfer, telling them she would send them the tickets electronically a few days before the show.
On the day of the concert, however, the tickets had still not been transferred, police say, adding that the accused told the alleged victims that she no longer had their money when they contacted her for a refund.
Police believe there may be other victims and are urging anyone who purchased fraudulent Taylor Swift tickets to contact them. Toronto Police are working with Toronto Regional Police Halton for this investigation.
The accused, who faces charges of fraud and possession of property obtained by crime, is scheduled to appear in court on January 10 in Toronto.
