Charleroi: suspended by mistake against Standard?

Saturday evening, Charleroi and Standard will face off for the second Walloon derby of the season. A meeting for which the Zebras will be deprived of a player who could have made the difference.

If he has often been decisive for Sporting this season, last weekend Daan Heymans was much less happy. At Genk, he failed to stand out offensively and it was two of his errors in midfield that allowed Limburg to score the first and third goals.

An expensive yellow

But above all, Heymans will have taken a yellow card. A warning which is not without consequences for the player, who will be suspended against Standard. The yellow card that was taken was in fact the fifth of the season.

But the question that arises is whether Heymans was right to protest against the yellow taken against Genk. “Even the referee said it was perhaps a mistake,” confided the player after the match. An error which will therefore have cost dearly and a Rik De Mil who will have to find a replacement for the derby.

A concern for De Mil

As a reminder, Standard won 2-1 in the first leg on October 20. A little more than a month later, the Rouches will want to get back on track and continue their momentum at Mambourg. The absence of Heymans is therefore quite good news for Leko and his family.

Just before that, Sporting’s number 18 had collected his fifth warning of the season, synonymous with suspension against Standard next Saturday. “It’s certain that I’m not going to sleep well. Besides, it was going to be my 100th with Charleroi,” he cursed in the mixed zone.
