Arrested last Friday, the politician Moustapha Diakhate and the journalist Adama Gaye experienced mixed fortunes yesterday after their face-to-face with the prosecutor. The first named was placed under a committal warrant and must be tried on Thursday, while the second benefits from provisional release, pending his trial in flagrante delicto, this Friday.
By Amadou MBODJI – Mixed fortunes yesterday for the politician Moustapha Diakhate and the journalist Adama Gaye. Placed under arrest warrant, Mr. Diakhate will, in fact, be judged this Thursday, November 28, 2024 in flagrante delicto. This is the announcement made by his lawyer, Me El Hadj Diouf.
Former president of the “Benno bokk yaakaar” (Bby) parliamentary group, Moustapha Diakhate was summoned by the Special Cybersecurity Division (Dsc). She heard him before placing him in custody. He is being prosecuted for the following offenses: “insult committed through a computer system”, “maneuvers and acts likely to compromise public security” and “serious political unrest”.
On the other hand, the journalist Adama Gaye benefits from provisional release, following his face-to-face meeting with the prosecutor. Judged in flagrante delicto, this Friday, November 29, Adama Gaye is being prosecuted for “dissemination of false news”. He declared on Sen TV that the former Minister of Finance, Mamadou Moustapha Ba, was killed.
Faced with investigators, Gaye was unable to provide proof of his allegations. Moustapha Diakhaté and Adama Gaye were referred to the Dakar Prosecutor’s Office yesterday Monday. And this after being arrested last Friday. Involved in separate investigations.
Adama Gaye: “No complaints have been notified to me”
In a text made public yesterday, journalist Adama Gaye declared: “No complaint was notified to me, I tell the Senegalese people that there were none.”
Then, he wanted to express his thanks to his electoral coalition during the early legislative elections “Gox yu bees” and to his supporters. He first expressed his gratitude to his “great lawyers, Iba Mar Diop, Adja Diallo, François Senghor, who came together for” his defense, alongside his other “very talented lawyer, Seydou Diagne, who dedicated since the first moment of my summons by the Dic”.
“My conscience remained completely clear. I salute you my parents from Facebook and from the physical society of Senegal and elsewhere for also showing your support for what seems to me to be a fundamental cause: freedom of expression. The experience has strengthened me and the horizon this evening is a serene azure blue,” declared Adama Gaye. Not without thanking his “heart family, the press, who reconciled with” him “by having an attitude that honors us”. “I like this press which puts its talent at the service of good causes. Hello artists,” he says.
