A Gatineau woman who defrauded the Boivin cheese factory for $48,000 in 2022 receives a 12-month community sentence.

The version presented by this Jo-Ann Therrien appeared implausible in the eyes of judge Sonia Rouleau.
The accused claimed to have acted on the recommendation of… the American actor Vin Diesel.
“We understand that Vin Diesel had nothing to [y] see…”, noted the director of criminal and penal prosecutions in the file, Me Michaël Bourget, leaving the courtroom at the Chicoutimi courthouse.
In May 2022, Jo-Ann Therrien, who lives in Gatineau, received $48,000 in her bank account from the Boivin cheese factory, convinced she was paying a supplier.
The account is emptied in June and closed permanently in August.
At her trial today, the accused, who earns less than $20,000 a year, said she followed the instructions of a lover who had been in contact with her via Instagram for a year… American actor Vin Diesel.
“He wanted to marry me, take care of my children, buy me a house in California. He sent me the photos and the address of the house,” said Jo-Ann Therrien.
She believed that the sum, coming from an account identified by the abbreviation “From. Boivin”, had been paid to him by a friend of Diesel. She allegedly made transactions in cryptocurrency ATMs at the actor’s request.
Under cross-examination, she said she realized she had been scammed by a fake Vin Diesel in April 2022, when she noticed online that the targeted house had already been sold. So, before the payment of the sum of nearly $48,000.
At the end of the pleadings, Judge Sonia Rouleau ruled that the accused’s testimony had no credibility.
In her statement to the police upon her arrest, the 44-year-old woman never mentioned the movie star.
Jo-Ann Therrien, with no criminal record, receives a sentence of 12 months of community detention, with permanent house arrest for the first four months.
She has 10 years to repay the cheese factory.
The defense lawyer, Mr.e Olivier Théorêt, indicated that his client had badly accepted the decision, she who considers herself a victim in this case, and could lose her job as a support employee in a school environment.
