A child reportedly received a bag of treats containing a razor blade during the traditional Santa Claus parade in Sherbrooke on Sunday.
It was a spectator who called the police present on site to report that one of his children had just received a bag of candy with a razor blade placed through the treats, explained the Sherbrooke city police department. (SPS), in a press release.
“We would like to advise those present during the parade that if they received treats from two ladies aged around 50, to carefully check the bag of treats,” said the SPS.
The suspects were in the crowd in the area of King Street East and 14th Avenue, police added, specifying that they were not part of the parade. They carried their treats in a yellow and red reusable bag.
The police say they take this report “very seriously” and a criminal investigation has been opened.
The razor blade was seized by patrol officers and an assessment will take place to find evidence.
Anyone who may have received a bag of candy with a sharp object or information to report is asked to contact police at 819-821-555.
