Lausanne Cathedral puts the Earth and its inhabitants on display for the Advent period. From November 27 to January 5, a giant photo of the blue planet (5 x 7 meters), seen from the moon, is hung in the choir of the building.
In addition to this NASA visual, the cathedral displays three maps by visual artist François Burland. They were created with young migrants who put their journey to Switzerland into drawings and words. The exhibition also includes 24 sound postcards recorded by 24 personalities, which reveal part of their “inner universe”.
The president of the Vaud government Christelle Luisier, the Lausanne municipal councilor David Payot, the national councilor Raphaël Mahaim, the journalist Maurine Mercier, the children’s singer Gaëtan, the writer Blaise Hofmann and the lawyer Irène Wettstein are among these personalities.
These recordings can all be heard in the cathedral from November 27. They will also be broadcast on social networks daily, one after the other, from December 1st.
The title of this Advent program, “Objectif terre”, echoes the famous Tintin album but also “the frantic competition that the great powers and private companies are engaged in to conquer the moon again”, writes the Ministry of the Cathedral in a press release. He adds that this desire to leave the Earth “can only question Christians who, as Christmas approaches, remember a God who chooses to incarnate by freely consenting to gravity and the human condition. »
