A regional assembly in Fez formalized the creation of the Regional Observatory for the Right of Access to Information for the Fez-Meknes region, the second of its kind in Morocco after that of the Oriental. Co-financed by the European Union, this project is part of Law 31-13 and Article 27 of the Constitution guaranteeing citizens’ access to public data.
“Four years after the entry into force of this law, it is time to evaluate its application and identify the obstacles to its effective implementation“, declared the president of the Regional Observatory for the Right of Access to Information of the Fez-Meknes region, Mohamed Amjahed.
The Observatory aims to monitor the application of this law, raise citizen awareness, produce reports on the responsiveness of public institutions as well as propose legislative improvements.
Furthermore, this project, led by the SimSim and Pionniers du Changement associations, promotes transparency, governance and citizen participation, with the ambition of establishing six similar observatories on a national scale.
