The project was initiated by Cheikh Ahmad Bamba Khadim Ndoye, a passionate visual artist, who wanted to highlight this culture through the clothing and lifestyle practices of the “Baye Fall”. According to him, the objective is not only to promote this cultural model, but also to transmit a message of determination to younger generations. “We worked on this subject as students of the National School of Arts, and that is why we chose to present it here in Rufisque, a place that lacks exhibition infrastructure,” said declared the artist.
A message of resilience and confidence
Cheikh Ahmad Bamba Khadim Ndoye insists on the importance of this event as an opportunity to raise awareness among the local community of the importance of the Biennale, while sending a strong message to young people: “We must show them an example so that they take confidence in themselves and that they can carry out their projects successfully. » This project was entirely financed thanks to his personal resources, thus illustrating the artist’s desire to bring his message to life without waiting for institutional help, in a context where the town of Rufisque lacks suitable exhibition sites.
“Baye Fall”, much more than a style
The exhibition highlights not only the traditional aspects of “Baye Fall” culture, but also the spiritual and social dimension that characterizes it. “The “Baye Fall” style is a concept, a spirit, but also a religion transmitted by our ancestors, in particular Cheikh Ibra Fall. This style represents the way we behave in front of our parents, our spiritual guides and in the world, without being overwhelmed by unnecessary objects. “, explained Abdouramane Fall, another visual artist and current manager of the gallery of the National School of Arts and Crafts of Culture.
The exhibition also allowed local children to learn about visual art, offering them a space for free and creative expression. These young people, who will be the artists of tomorrow, had the opportunity to share their vision through naive art. According to Abdouramane Fall, this approach is essential to encourage future generations to reclaim their cultural heritage while expressing themselves in their own way.
A tribute to Saliou Dionne
The inauguration ceremony of the exhibition was a highlight, dedicated to Saliou Dionne, a teacher and mentor of artists, whose influence is recognized in the training of young talents. This gesture marks the commitment of the organizers to transmit the values of respect and humility carried by the “Baye Fall” culture.
Thus, through this initiative, Rufisque artists and their allies offer a new vision of “Baye Fall” culture, beyond stereotypes, and contribute to the revitalization of the local artistic scene. It is an invitation to rediscover deep values and a model of life based on simplicity, respect and spirituality.
