An 18-year-old rushes at police officers with a stolen car in Pointe-Claire

An 18-year-old suspect who drove a stolen vehicle into two police officers in a patrol car was quickly sniffed out by the police dog Phoenix after trying to escape on Sunday in the area from Pointe-Claire, in Montreal.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) was called to intervene regarding a suspect in a stolen SUV-style vehicle on Portway Avenue, near Hermitage Avenue, around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Upon arriving on scene, two officers found themselves facing the stolen vehicle. It was when they tried to get out of their car to apprehend the suspect that the latter accelerated and rushed towards them.

The head-on collision between the two vehicles caused major damage to the patrol car, according to Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM.

Following the impact, the 18-year-old fled on foot.

A security perimeter was erected on site to try to find him. Just minutes after the search began, police dog Phoenix located the suspect, who was eventually arrested. He is expected to appear in the Court of Quebec on Monday.

The two police officers in the patrol vehicle suffered minor injuries and were not transported to hospital.

The scene was protected for investigators so that they could analyze and understand the exact circumstances of this event.
