MLS: CF Montréal unveils its sports structure

CF Montreal has made some changes to its sports structure, announcing Thursday that it wanted to give more importance to analytics and collaboration with Italian club Bologna FC.

Appointed as a consultant on July 9, Corey Wray will now serve as soccer director. The role of sports director, which Olivier Renard occupied until his departure in May, was not mentioned in the press release.

Luca and Simone Saputo were confirmed in the positions they have held for several months. Luca is Senior Director, Recruitment and Sports Methodology, while Simone is Senior Director, Academy Strategy and Squad Management.

Raffaele Frassetti is the club’s new chief scout.

“This sports structure allows us to maximize our strategic vision,” said Gabriel Gervais, president and CEO of CF Montréal, in a press release. We want to have increased rigor in recruitment, clear processes and a structured approach, while placing emphasis on analytics, the development of young talents from the Academy and high-potential players in our squad. »

Luca Saputo worked with Bologna FC in 2023 and will serve as the sports liaison between CF Montreal and Bologna FC for talent scouting, player recruitment, budget management and sharing best practices.

“We want to build a competitive team each season while remaining faithful to our playing identity and our sporting project,” added Gervais. Luca and Simone embody the same pride and determination as that of the family that has been developing soccer in Montreal for over 30 years.

“In addition, Corey’s extensive MLS experience represents an undeniable asset. In recent months, we have seen his professionalism, his rigor and his analytical sense. This structure proved its effectiveness during the last transfer window and at the end of the season, bringing positive results and qualification for the playoffs. »
