More than 427,000 people were internally displaced in Somalia during the first ten months of 2024, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced.
The month of October saw a notable increase in displacement, with 66,000 people displaced, UNHCR said on Tuesday, noting that 50,000 people were displaced due to conflict and insecurity, while 3,000 were forced to leave their homes. outbreak due to droughts or floods.

The regions of Gedo, Bay and Banadir, located in the south of the country, recorded the largest flows of displaced populations, said the same source, emphasizing the needs of these vulnerable populations, such as access to food, clean water, shelter and health care.
In this regard, UNHCR, in partnership with the Somali authorities and local actors, is working on the ground to provide essential assistance and mitigate the impacts of conflicts and natural disasters on affected populations, said the UN agency, recalling that the search for durable solutions for refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons remains at the top of its priorities.
