The repeal of the pension reform approved by the deputies in committee – Libération

The text presented to the Social Affairs Committee by LFI as part of its parliamentary “niche” was approved this Wednesday, November 20 by 35 votes (left and RN), against 16 (from the center and right).

It is above all a symbolic act. But the left won a new victory this Wednesday, November 20 in its offensive to repeal the much-maligned pension reform, a measure that provoked the biggest social movement in decades: its proposal to reduce the retirement age from 64 to 62. was adopted by the Assembly's Social Affairs Committee.

The text, presented by the group of La insoumise (LFI) as part of its parliamentary “niche”, was approved by 35 votes, adding those of the left and the National Rally (RN), against 16 from the ranks of the center and right. On the social network X, the deputies of France Insoumise welcomed this “victory” according to them. The vice-president of the Assembly and member of Val-de-, Clémence Guetté, expressed her “huge relief”explaining that it was a “first step of a procedure that the Macronists will no longer be able to stop”. His colleague chairman of the Finance Committee, Eric Coquerel, estimated that the “pension reform” of 2023 was “now on probation”.

The next, decisive step for this text repealing the pension reform will be its arrival in public session on Thursday, November 28. And, unless the parliamentary procedure is used which would derail its examination, it should be adopted: in addition to the 192 votes of the New Popular Front groups, this bill could, a priori, count on the 125 of the RN since their president of group, Marine Le Pen, repeated Wednesday morning on RTL that her troops would be instructed to vote in favor of returning to 62, in “the interest of the French”.

Updated at 2:15 p.m. with reactions from LFI and Marine Le Pen.
