The Simonis metro station in Brussels was evacuated this Wednesday around noon following a bomb threat. Metro traffic was interrupted between Simonis and Yser.
The Simonis metro and tram station was reopened by police around 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, and metro traffic was restored.
Earlier today, several testimonies reached us. “There seems to be a Simonis metro bomb threat currently. Neighborhood cordoned off”Gaëtan told us this Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. via the Alert us button. “There are police everywhere,” Nathalie also testified.
“Shortly after 11:30 a.m., a metro passenger called our dispatch because he thought he had noticed suspicious behavior”explains Guy Sablon, spokesperson for STIB. “As a precautionary measure, we immediately completely evacuated the metro and tram station. The police have established a large perimeter and are now searching the metro station.”
Federal and local police attended the scene, accompanied by a dog “in order to perform a sweep”, said the federal police. The investigation is ongoing and, in the interest of the investigation, no further comments will be provided.
The circulation of metro 6 between Yser and Simonis is therefore restored, “but a technical problem independent of the incident still causes an interruption of metro lines 2 and 6 between Belgica and Delacroix stations”concluded the Stib.
