Dragons: a not very reassuring teaser for the live-action remake of the animated film

The very first teaser for the live-action adaptation of the film Dragonsexpected in theaters on June 11, 2025, has just arrived on the web. You can therefore already discover a preview of what the adventures of Hiccup and Toothless will look like in this live-action version. And you realize that this seems to be a true carbon copy of the original film.

A copy-pasted remake?

The Vikings of the Isle of Berk will experience a new life in theaters next year, with the release of the live-action remake of Dragons. Directed by Dean DeBlois, who was already at the helm of the original animated trilogy, the film is revealed through first images which show us that apart from featuring real humans in the roles of the inhabitants of Berk, this adaptation has above all looks like the exact same movie.

Most of the shots are the same, Toothless has been recreated in the same mold as his animated version, and even Gerard Butler is back to once again play the role of Stoik the Brute.

It makes you wonder if the whole movie is like that and if someone at Universal realized how unappealing this first teaser is. Judge for yourself.

For our part, we tend to think that these first images give a glimpse of a film whose existence has the sole purpose of attracting fans of the original trilogy to easily score well at the box office. , despite an aesthetic that leaves something to be desired and costumes worthy of a bad part ofAsterix & Obelix.

As a reminder, Dragons tells the story of the life of a small Viking village fighting against repeated attacks by dragons. Until the day when Hiccup, the chief's young son, befriends the dragon Toothless, and changes the way his people see these creatures.

In short, this remake which stars Mason Thames (The Black Phone) in the guise of Harold and Nico Parker (The Last of Us) as Astrid, is the first live-action adaptation of a DreamWorks film and, frankly, no one asked for it.

But the trilogy of animated films, released between 2010 and 2019, generated more than $1.6 billion at the global box office and established the franchise as one of Dreamworks' assets. It is therefore not surprising that the studio is adopting Disney's strategy by starting live-action remakes.

Regardless, the theatrical release of this film Dragons is scheduled for June 11, 2025.
