GUEST RTL – “I don’t see what the problem is”: Marine Le Pen reacts to Jordan Bardella’s comments on her potential ineligibility

Has Jordan Bardella recorded the end of the honeymoon with Marine Le Pen? The president of the National Rally declared, on November 18 on BFMTV: “Not having a conviction on your criminal record is for me a number one rule when you wish to be a parliamentarian of the Republic.”

It's difficult not to make a connection with the news of the party and Marine Le Pen. Is this sentence intended to put her out of the race? Guest of RTL this November 20, the president of the National Rally deputies indicated that she did not take it personally. “I am impatiently waiting for the acquittal to restore my innocence in the eyes of everyone,” she said.

“We are making a case of nothing at all. Not having an entry in your criminal record bulletin number 3 is a requirement that has existed at the National Rally for a very long time and which will be valid for everyone whatever happens obviously. I don’t see where the problem is,” adds Marine Le Pen.

Jordan Bardella has never disappointed me

The day before, the mood was one of discretion in the ranks of RN elected officials. Asked about the party president's declaration and its impact for the upcoming elections, an RN deputy responded laconically: “You are in a world of tomorrow or the day after tomorrow…”

If Jordan Bardella's statement raises questions about his ambitions, it is because it follows the comments written by the latter in his book What I'm looking for. He acts for the first time as the successor to Marine Le Pen. “Bringing out a successor is one of the first duties of a leader, Marine has done it,” he writes.

Has the succession of Marine Le Pen, in the event of ineligibility, been discussed? “No, we did not talk about it because we do not put ourselves in this hypothesis,” replied the RN deputy. And added: “He has never disappointed me.”

In the case of the party's parliamentary assistants, the prosecution requested against the unsuccessful three-time presidential candidate, five years of imprisonment including two prison terms et 300,000 euros fine. The prosecution also asked the court to combine the sentence of ineligibility with provisional execution. Concretely, this means that the judgment would apply immediately even if Marine Le Pen appeals, hampering her ambitions for the 2027 presidential election.
