Noted participation of Algerian journalist and opponent Hichem Aboud at the international conference in Fez on “The Amazigh language and Moroccan Territorial Unity”

On Friday November 15 and Saturday November 16, 2024, the Saïss Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, affiliated with the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University of Fez, was the scene of an international conference on the theme: “The Amazigh language and the primordial national question: territorial unity”. Organized to commemorate the Anniversary of the Green March, this event attracted a wide range of participants, including the Algerian journalist and opponent Hichem Aboudwhose presence left a lasting impression.

A leading actor for an engaged debate

Hichem Aboud, known for his critical positions towards the Algerian military regime, actively participated in the discussions at the conference. His presence at this event symbolized a bridge between progressive voices in the region, transcending political barriers to discuss Moroccan territorial integrity and the fundamental role of Amazigh culture in this national cause.

In his speech, Hichem Aboud praised the richness of Amazigh culture and its historical role in Moroccan identity. He highlighted the importance of solidarity between the people of the region in the face of common challenges, including disinformation and ideological manipulation aimed at dividing the Maghreb nations. For Aboud, the issue of the Moroccan Sahara goes beyond political borders and is at the heart of a fight for truth and unity.

A plea for territorial integrity and Amazigh culture

The Algerian journalist underlined the historical and cultural anchoring of the Moroccan Sahara in the Amazigh identity, recalling that this region has always been integrated into the Moroccan socio-cultural fabric. He also denounced separatist theories, describing them as political instruments used to maintain instability in the region.

Hichem Aboud particularly insisted on the role of Amazigh poetry and music as living witnesses of Moroccan unity. He also highlighted the national consensus around the Saharan question, proof, according to him, of a nation unified in its cultural diversity. The presence of Hichem Aboud was welcomed by the organizers and participants of the conference, who saw it as a symbol of openness and dialogue between the nations of the Maghreb.
