The results are in. “The analysis of the cervical lesion on which the Prime Minister underwent surgery did not find any suspicious cells”cancerous, announced Michel Barnier's doctor in a press release distributed by Matignon on Tuesday, November 19. The intervention of the head of government, aged 73, was announced at the end of October. “Everything went very well, the results of the analysis [effectuée] will be known within a few weeks”, his doctor, Olivier Hersan, then reported. The Prime Minister returned to work the day after his operation.

“The Prime Minister is continuing his activities normally, as he has been doing since Monday October 28”said the press release relayed on Tuesday. The term “cervical injury” can both designate an injury to an organ in the neck, such as a malignant or benign growth, or evoke a bone injury, such as a herniated disc or a fracture.

It was the first time in forty years that a head of government had undergone an operation: in 1984, Socialist Prime Minister Pierre Mauroy was admitted to the Parisian Val-de-Grâce hospital to treat acute pneumonia.
