CAN 2025: Senegal ends the qualifiers in style by beating Burundi 2-0 | APAnews

This victory allows Senegal, already qualified, to end its campaign in style and consolidate its status as favorite at the next African Cup of Nations (CAN) scheduled for 2025 in Morocco.

The Senegal football Lions closed the CAN 2025 qualifiers on a victorious note, winning 2-0 against Burundi on Tuesday evening at the Abdoulaye-Wade stadium in Diamniadio, near Dakar.

The protégés of interim coach Pape Thiaw built their success thanks to a brace from midfielder Habib Diarra, author of a brilliant performance. With three goals scored during this qualifying phase, the captain of , , joins Sadio Mané as co-top scorer for the national team for this campaign.

Under the leadership of Pape Thiaw, Senegal had a flawless run, winning their last four matches, with eight goals scored and none conceded. This impeccable record strengthens confidence around the national team as CAN 2025 approaches in Morocco.

Before the match kicked off, Senegalese wrestler Reug Reug, recently crowned champion at an international MMA tournament, received a standing ovation from spectators in the sparsely filled 50,000-seat stadium.
