Microsoft will launch in 2025 its first mini PC running solely on the cloud, the Windows 365 Link, in order to access a secure Windows environment remotely.
Alongside its announcements on Copilot, its ecosystem of AI services integrated into Windows 11, Microsoft has unveiled a new kind of machine in its portfolio.
Windows 365 Link is Microsoft's first mini-PC, but unlike its Surface range, it is dedicated to its Windows 365 cloud offering. The machine allows you to use Windows 11 remotely as well as the entire Office 365 suite.
The PC in the cloud by Microsoft
It was in 2021 that Microsoft launched its Windows 365 offer, a subscription allowing access to a Windows PC remotely via the cloud from any machine. Dedicated mainly to professionals and businesses, the offer already has more than 400 million subscribers around the world.
The firm therefore decided to enrich its hardware portfolio with Windows 365 Link, a very small PC designed for its cloud offering. If we know little about its technical sheet at the moment, it should be very light, without the slightest fan.
No data or applications will be stored locally on the machine which must be connected to the internet to access its Windows environment. The system will be much lighter than a version dedicated to office machines and will offer relatively few security settings for users, these being managed by the company.
However, some experiences will be processed locally, such as video conferencing via Teams or Webex. The connectivity offer is not left out since Windows 365 Link supports up to two 4K screens, four USB ports (including one USB-C), a mini-jack port, Ethernet as well as two video ports (HDMI and DisplayPort) .
