EXPORTS FROM SENEGAL | A SPECTACULAR RISE IN SEPTEMBER DRIVEN BY GOLD AND OIL PRODUCTS

Senegalese exports reached a remarkable level in September 2024, standing at 422.7 billion CFA francs, a significant increase of 85.2% compared to the month of August (228.2 billion). On an annual basis, the progression is even more impressive, with an increase of 97.6% compared to September 2023, according to the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).

This strong increase is mainly due to the performance of the following products: Petroleum products: 68.5 billion CFA francs, compared to 53.8 billion in August 2024. Non-monetary gold: 95.7 billion, a clear increase compared to 14, 9 billion recorded in August. Titanium: 11.5 billion, compared to 9.5 billion the previous month. These products, particularly non-monetary gold, have played a central role in improving the country’s export earnings.

The ANSD emphasizes that this increase could have been even more marked if certain product categories had not recorded a drop: Phosphoric acid: 16.9 billion in September compared to 31.5 billion in August. Zirconium: 5.8 billion compared to 7.2 billion the previous month. Food preparations for soups, stews and broths: 7.3 billion compared to 8 billion in August. These declines slightly dampened the overall increase in exports.

Since the start of the year until September 2024, Senegal has accumulated 2,674.9 billion CFA francs in exports, recording growth of 6.9% compared to the same period in 2023, where the figure amounted to 2501.3 billion. This performance reflects a dynamic supported by strategic sectors, despite certain occasional fluctuations in other areas.

This increase in exports confirms Senegal’s growing economic potential, particularly in the natural resources and manufactured products sectors. However, the fluctuations observed in certain products highlight the need to further diversify exports and ensure stability in key sectors.
