KEEMTAAN GI – POLITICS DIFFERENTLY
It seems as if it was a contest of superlatives. Unlike the rave headlines in the Monday written press, colleagues were unrecognizable on election day when the results were announced. They were no longer journalists on a set, but “opponents” whom the verdict of the ballot box had suddenly made distressing. Not very glorious for the corporation! On their set where they redid the elections according to their own outdated reading grids, we felt a stubborn resentment towards a person. The same resentment that consumes the hearts of born opponents, quickly brought back to reality to show their political insignificance. To these neo-opponents, while their main adversary was talking about the realities of the country, they were there quibbling over the one they don’t even want to see in painting, often with below-the-belt attacks. A hatred that could soon finish them off. The same process since Oscar Sierra took off as Prime Minister. One hundred days after the transfer of power between the former Chief and the current one, the political arguments no longer came down to a programmatic or ideological confrontation, but to who would do the most harm. The political scene of this charming country thus seems very sordid to us with men who sink into a childish and disappointing irreverence. Galsen is far from this image which gave him a land of freedom where life is good and where democracy is watered, irrigated by ideas and not by the force and violence of arguments. Which appears to be a step backwards. The degrading image that certain media present must be erased. We offer a platform to people whose only reasoning is to utter nonsense. With insults in their mouths, they lie and denigrate while claiming freedom of the press. Reputations are thus tarnished by self-proclaimed columnists who abound in our local media and who are for the most part of great intellectual vacuity. The real intellectuals who should have set a good example are not doing any better. In their writings as in their words ooze verbal violence and excessive demonization which do not honor their status. Unsightly images to erase. Quickly ! Our children are watching us.
THE WITNESS – THE WITNESS
HAT TOP FROM “WITNESS” MINISTER JEAN BAPTISTE TINE DISTINGUISHED!
Like the “Wanted”, the “Coup de Sabot” and the famous “Al Khayri”, the “Coup de Chapeau” is an old section of the daily “Le Témoin” born in 1990, at the time of the launch of the weekly Tuesday. The “Coup de Chapeau”, as its name indicates, was intended to pay tribute to people who had distinguished themselves by their words, their writings or their actions which had accomplished an exploit or aroused the admiration of the public. Precisely, there is reason to dust off this old rubric, to award it to the current Minister of the Interior Jean Baptiste Tine for having organized and organized inclusive, democratic and transparent legislative elections. Better still, the former high commander of the gendarmerie implemented a security system for the smooth running of the vote without violence. Still, Minister Jean Baptiste Tine took civilized revenge against the barbarians who bloodied the electoral campaign. It is a victory of reason over madness. Citizens voted peacefully and returned to their homes without being mistreated by gangsters. The Senegalese owe this serenity to the Ministry of the Interior, whose services have demonstrated expertise. As much as the General Directorate of Elections (DGE) was able to implement a method without prejudice to the transparency of the vote, the defense and security forces demonstrated their mastery of the field. Added to this is the behavior of the territorial administration, mainly the governors, prefects and sub-prefects who, rare, have not been indexed by political actors. Their hierarchical superior, in this case General (2s) Jean Baptiste Tine, has every reason to be proud of the work they have accomplished in good coordination. It is therefore quite natural that “Le Témoin” awards him the Coup de Chapeau, this honorary distinction which falls to the virtuous servants and faithful readers of your daily newspaper.
COMMUNE OF AGNAN THE DEFECTION OF GHOST VOTERS
With a population of 850,000 inhabitants, the Matam region has 316,000 registered voters spread across 269 polling places and 674 offices. For one of the departments that is Matam, it has 170,744 voters, 117 centers and 350 offices. Ranérou Ferlo has 27,396 voters, 48 centers and 71 polling stations. In the lot, the polling station of the mayor of Agnam Farba Ngom is a candidate nominated on the national list of the “Takku Wallu” coalition led by Macky Sall. Precisely in this famous polling station, there are more than… 3,000 registered under the leadership of Macky Sall. ! As of the evening of November 17, 2024, there are only 276 voters. A mysterious discrepancy which suggests that most of the 2,500 or so “registered” in Agnam were phantom voters intended for ballot stuffing. For this time, according to the daily “Le Témoin”, the stuffing should have been impossible since most of the ghost voters, transferred or transshipped in the past, were unable to make the trip to Agnan because of the locking of the departmental borders by the minister of the Interior. It is true that the mayor of Agnam Farba Ngom won his commune and the “Takku Wallu” coalition of Macky Sall, the rest of Fouta! But the raid due to ballot stuffing did not take place! One thing is certain, Macky Sall’s “Land Title” has become a “lease”, and soon a precarious title. Then the revocation in view of the local elections then the eviction…
NEW REPUBLIC CONSTITUTIONALISTS MUST SPEAK
Are we witnessing the birth of a new republic? Pastef’s victory in the legislative elections closes a political sequence which began with the Presidential election in March 2024. Now that the circle has come full circle, we can wonder if we are not witnessing a new Republic. The second certainly because from our independence to the present day, approximately 64 years, Senegal has lived under the Senghorian era. The regimes of Diouf, Me Wade and Macky Sall drew their political DNA from the shadow of the poet president. The same political class which stood out by recycling our independence today thanks to the system of transhumance which meant that it was the same political elites who have governed us since then. Some have existed since the Senghorian era. The advent of Pastef, who now triumphs, provokes the political retreat of these dinosaurs who have fossilized in the political space. Now is this enough to announce the advent of the 2nd Republic of Senegal. We are directly calling on the Constitutionalists to comment on this.
LEGISLATIVES THE NATIONAL CENSUS COMMISSION ENTERS HIGH SCHOOL
The National Voting Census Commission begins this work this Tuesday, November 19 at the Lat-Dior Courthouse. Chaired by the First President of the Court of Appeal of Dakar as President of the said structure, the Commission is the only body authorized to give the provisional results of the legislative election of this Sunday, November 17. Thus the representatives of the political parties and party coalitions who have been summoned for this Tuesday will know the outline of their legislative scores. They will be able to challenge the decisions of the Commission before the Constitutional Council.
LEGISLATIVE THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CIVIL FORUM
The electoral observation mission of the Civil Forum, the Senegalese section of Transparency International, praised the maturity of the Senegalese people for holding early elections in calm and serenity. She also praised the spirit of fair play of political competitors congratulating the winning party even before the provisional proclamation of the results. However, supporters of Birahim Seck deplored acts of violence which have somewhat tarnished the image of Senegal as a democratic showcase in a context of real security challenges. In terms of recommendations, the Civil Forum asked the State to ensure the proper continuation of the process and the next stages of the post-electoral phase as stipulated in the legal framework. Political actors were invited to use the remedies provided for this purpose in the event of a dispute, to avoid using violence as a means of resolving conflicts, to ban all hate speech at their grassroots level and to continue the capacity building of their activists and better involvement of women in decision-making bodies. The media are called upon to continue covering information with respect for ethics and professional conduct and to refrain from conveying any hate speech and false information.
LEGISLATIVES RACINE SY ET ALSAR, A REVELATION
Even if in the end, he is not a deputy, this in no way takes away from the fact that the national movement And Liggey Senegal ak Racine -ALSAR- of Mamadou Racine Sy, was able to resist the steamroller of Pastef in the Commune. With 1,368 votes in its bag, ALSAR was ahead of the Takku-Wallu coalition (1,220 votes), notably composed of two former ruling parties, the APR and the PDS, in this case, without counting other political forces… A remarkable performance! The juggernaut Pastef won the municipal stakes with 1,556 votes, therefore with barely more than 100 votes than ALSAR… For their first participation in elections on a national scale, ALSAR will have aroused a lot of hope and could elsewhere reverse the trend in the department, especially since this national movement launched in 2017 has impregnable bastions, notably in the localities of Fanaye, Diagnoum, Dimath, Diattar, Thiangaye, Thillé Boubacar, Ndiawar, Donaye Taredji, Mafré, Bidi (Guédé village commune), Médina Ndiathbé, Cas-Cas, Walaldé or even Thilogne (Matam department), Coulibantan, Koupentoum, Tambacounda, etc. Racine Sy has invaluable social capital and sympathy, in the department of Podor, thanks to its large-scale social actions linked to support for worship (construction of mosques), financing for women, without forgetting construction and equipment of health structures, the promotion of youth employment and the protection of the elderly… For its first participation in national elections, ALSAR has already won the challenge of visibility and positioning in this political spectrum, renowned difficult.
INNOCENCE IS NOTHING ELSE
The former President of the High Council for Social Dialogue, Ms. Innocence Ntap Ndiaye, is not idle. Our radars picked up his movement yesterday in distant Burundi. In Bujumbura, she was welcomed by the Minister of Civil Service, Labor and Employment Mr. Venuste Muyabga who had at his side the President of the National Committee for Social Dialogue (CNDS) of Burundi and tripartite constituents and the Regional Director of the International Labor Office Ms. Fanfan Rwanniyindo. Ms. Innocence Ntap Ndiaye traveled to Bujumbura as President of the Francophone International of Social Dialogue (IFDS). The said structure was set up by social dialogue experts from French-speaking countries on the sidelines of the Academy of Social Dialogue and Professional Relations held in Turin from November 28 to December 9, 2016. The IFDS sets itself the objective of contributing to strengthening the practice of social dialogue in the French-speaking world. It is holding its 6th regional seminar from November 19 to 22 in Bujumbura.
