Referee Mitch Dunning had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher after accidental contact with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson Monday night in Philadelphia.
In the first period, the official and the player never saw each other at the Flyers blue line and the shock was hard for Dunning. He fell heavily on the ice and took several seconds to move.

Many doctors and sports therapists came to the official’s aid and after many minutes, they brought in a stretcher. When he came out, Manson came to greet him with class. Watch in main video.
The National Hockey League said Dunning’s neurological signs were normal and he was able to communicate and move his extremities.
The meeting between the Avalanche and the Flyers continued with a single referee and two linesmen. It was Colorado who won 3-2 thanks to a double from Cale Makar.
The other goal of the Avs, that of Casey Mittelstadt, was scored with the help of Jonathan Drouin, who amassed a first point this season.
The Flyers reduced the gap to one goal with two goals in just under two minutes, midway through the third period. Goalkeeper Justus Annunen, however, subsequently closed the door and finished his match with 24 saves.
