The Parti Québécois smells the scent of power and it has no other choice but to begin presenting its plan for managing public affairs.
Taking up nearly 50% of Quebec’s total budget, the health system is always a favorite subject for those who would like to offer us a better management method.
We must cure the “structuritis”
The experts invited by the PQ last weekend highlighted the increasing use of medications to treat all ailments, among the young and the old.
Prescribing a pill takes less time than treating depression, hyperactivity or painful isolation.
When it is the entire health system that is sick, we also look for a quick solution.
For the CAQ, the prescription is Santé Québec. For the PQ, maybe not. Meanwhile, the disease continues. It is called “structurity”.
Let’s stop putting toothpaste back in the tube
The Quebec health system is bleeding profusely and we cannot stand by and do nothing if we want to save the patient.
The vast majority of observers are skeptical about the idea that a new superstructure like Santé Québec will be the solution to the disorganization of the system, but it is already too late.
The investments to create Santé Québec are enormous and have already been made. Going backwards in two years will only increase disruptions in the network.
The proofs need to be done, but a future government which announces its intention to back down on such a project will only harm its start-up and encourage inertia in the network.
It is time for us to work in a transpartisan manner when it comes time to develop major reforms. The electoral cha-cha-cha only siphons off citizens’ wallets and trust.
