The opening of a photographic exhibition exploring the chromatic richness of Moroccan cities took place Monday in Chengdu, capital of the Chinese province of Sichuan, in the presence of many Art enthusiasts and media representatives.
Placed under the sign “Colorful Morocco”, this initiative is the result of a trip undertaken in August 2023 to Morocco by six Chinese photographers, including Wang Qi, founder of the “Dake Art” gallery which is hosting the exhibition.
The result of a collaboration between the Chinese Embassy in Rabat, the Chinese Cultural Center of Rabat and the China Overseas Development Association, the exhibition presents a total of 55 photographs divided into five sections: “White Casablanca”, “Red Marrakech” , “Blue Chefchaouen”, “Ancient Fez” and “Ancient Ouarzazate”.
These photos reveal the ocher and labyrinthine alleys of the Marrakech medina, introducing visitors to the captivating atmosphere of the Majorelle garden as well as scenes brought to life by storytellers, musicians and snake charmers at the Jemaa El-Fna square.
Around Ouarzazate, the photographers’ lens focused on the Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, showing the Chinese public facets of the beauty of a citadel built in perfect communion with the surrounding natural landscape.
The exhibition, which runs until December 30, also immerses visitors in the alleys of Fez, exploring the tanneries and shops of master artisans shaping copper and leather.
The photographers also highlighted the different shades of blue covering the walls of the winding streets of Chefchaouen and crossing homes and merchants’ stalls.
In Casablanca, they were particularly interested in the glittering buildings overlooking the Atlantic and the reinterpreted colonial architecture, not forgetting the Hassan II mosque.
These works attracted art lovers and culture enthusiasts, who came in large numbers to exchange their impressions and reflections on the diversity characteristic of Moroccan civilization.
With a population of approximately 16 million, Chengdu is an important cultural, industrial and technological center of western China.
