Calls for strikes have increased in recent weeks. As a direct consequence, the mobilization should reach the country from this Monday, November 18, 2024.
A situation which already began last week, with the first strikes at the RATP, in the airline sector and the first demonstrations by angry farmers.
Strikes could last until Christmas. Forecasts.
Farmers from Monday November 18
The Peasant Confederation (classified on the left) began local actions this Thursday, November 14 and Friday, November 15. They will continue Monday and Tuesday, particularly in Morbihan and Drôme.
The FNSEA begins its mobilization from this Monday, November 18, until mid-December.
These new mobilizations will take place “in front of the prefectures, on the roundabouts and the boulevards of France”, explained Arnaud Rousseau, president of the FNSEA, during a press conference.
We do not want to annoy the French but to put pressure on the public authorities.
Loan conditions to improve “farm cash flow”, adjustment of the free trade treaty between the European Union and South American countries Mercosura legal framework to make life easier for farmers…
The reasons for the anger are numerous, and the mobilization could grow as the days go by. To the point of return to last winter's protests ?
The SNCF
It is an ultimatum, “the last”, launched by the CGT, UNSA, Sud-Rail and CFDT unions to the management of the SNCF. These organizations are calling for a strike starting this Wednesday, November 20, at 8 p.m., and until Friday the 22nd, 8 a.m.
Concretely, these organizations denounce the announced dismantling of Fret SNCF, the opening to competition from regional trains (TER, Transilien and Intercités) and are calling for a modernization of the rail network.
We will not let the bandwagon of the liquidation of Fret SNCF, the privatization of the TER, Transilien and Intercités activities and the breakup of SNCF Réseau pass by without doing anything.
This strike sounds like a warning shot before the call for an indefinite strike for December 11. A way to put pressure on as the end-of-year holidays approach, synonymous, for many users, with using the train.
And after this week?
As you will have understood, strikes will increase in the coming weeks. Some Michelin employees, in Vannes and Cholet, are continuing the strike launched on November 5 following the announcement of the closure of the two factories before 2026. These closures would leave 1,200 employees on the job.
For the moment, strikes are limited to these sectors. But others have already been announced.
On December 5, the public service inter-union (except FO) is calling for a one-day strike that some predict will be massive. National education and the public health sector are concerned.
This call for a strike follows announcements by Guillaume Kasbarian, Minister of the Civil Service, to cut the budget of civil servants, in compensating less for sick leave and adopting three waiting daysas in the private sector. An austerity cure that won't work.
Others could follow. The inter-union of medical biologists is already planning a strike in the analysis laboratories, from December 23 to 31. There had already been a strike in September.
