120 missiles and 90 drones launched by Russia
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, Russia sent around 120 missiles and 90 drones at Ukrainian energy infrastructure, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The country’s anti-aircraft defense managed to destroy 140 of these targets, according to him. He also claims that half of the country’s energy capacity is destroyed. Foreign Minister Andriï Sybiga denounced “one of the largest air attacks” launched by Russia.
The Polish army took off fighter planes
The Polish army announced that it had taken off fighter planes and mobilized “all available forces and resources” to protect its territory during the Russian night attack on Ukraine.
Eight dead and around twenty injured
The various Russian attacks against the country during the night and morning left eight dead and around twenty injured, according to local authorities. Two employees of the state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia were killed during the bombing of a depot in Nikopol (south). A woman was killed in a missile attack on the western Lviv region. Two people were killed in Odessa. A drone strike killed two people in the South, according to the emergency services.
Power outages in three regions
According to the Ukrainian energy operator, DTEK, this is the eighth major attack against its power plants this year. This Sunday, “emergency power cuts” were announced in kyiv and its region, as well as in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk, both in the east. Power is gradually being restored in the Ukrainian capital.
