Morocco: 19 children hospitalized following food poisoning linked to chips

Nineteen students from the Sahel school in Oulad Hriz, in Berrechid province, were hospitalized on Saturday evening after consuming chips sold in a nearby store. The first symptoms of food poisoning were observed quickly, and the victims were rushed to the emergency department.

The students, aged 10 to 14, developed vomiting and abdominal pain after ingesting chips purchased in a store near their school. Immediate intervention allowed them to be transported to hospital for treatment. After receiving first aid, two of them were kept under observation, while the others were able to leave the hospital.

The incident led to the mobilization of local authorities, including medical and security teams. Health authorities were alerted, and an investigation was opened to determine whether the chips consumed were expired. Samples were taken for analysis.

Early indications suggest the chips were potentially unsafe to eat. Officers from the Royal Gendarmerie and public health services took steps to inspect the storage conditions of the product in the store.

Local authorities assure that a thorough investigation is underway to identify responsibilities and avoid future similar incidents. Food security in the region will be strengthened, and prevention measures will be put in place to protect the health of students.
