“I am extremely touched by the support I received from the members of Québec solidaire. I am very proud. Thank you for your trust,” said the MP for Mercier during the Congress at the Cœur des sciences agora at UQAM, in front of QS activists and supporters.

“Welcome to the new united Quebec!” she declared.

She will become the third official co-spokesperson alongside Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, after Émilise Lessard-Therrien and Manon Massé. Christine Labrie had held the position temporarily.

“She is what the left and Quebec need: a born leader and a woman with an inspiring career,” said Mr. Nadeau-Dubois in a press release.

She will take up the torch from Mme Lessard-Therrien who left the party last April after having been co-spokesperson for four months. She initially left the party due to ill health, later confirming that she was suffering from burnout.

Her departure, however, caused a scandal for the party, after she denounced the lack of space to be heard. “The different vision that I proposed came up against an organizational blockage, within a party which was created to do politics differently,” she said at the time.
