After the extension of the A1, Geneva will face the construction site of the bypass motorway

Published on November 15, 2024 at 05:30. / Modified on November 15, 2024 at 3:25 p.m.

  • In three stages, the planned enlargement would be carried out between 2027 and 2042.

  • If the final footprint is limited, except for forests, the footprint associated with the work will be massive.

  • Geneva hopes to make it a “functional ring road” in order to relieve cantonal and municipal routes.

The vote of November 24 on the extension of the national road network has not yet taken place and the next step, the “logical” continuation if we dare say, has already been mentioned. In Geneva, it is the project to widen the bypass motorway, in the extension of the A1 between Geneva and Lausanne, which is causing serious concern. Because in their scope, their cost and their nuisance, the works will be of a completely different dimension than those induced by the 19 kilometers of the section between Nyon and Vengeron.

This is also what most of the municipalities concerned fear, as well as various associations, including Sauvegarde Genève, which brought together the press on Tuesday to discuss the “negative impacts” of this enlargement and propose their vision of “sustainable mobility » in Geneva.
