Samsung launches new Samsung Health Suite software development kit (SDK)

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. introduced, on Thursday, November 14, 2024, a new software development kit (SDK) Samsung Health Suite, designed to better support developers and researchers in creating innovative healthcare solutions.

According to a press release, a copy of which reached us at lareleve.ma, the SDK Suite takes advantage of Samsung’s advanced sensor technology and the complete Samsung Health platform.

The new comprehensive set of sensor components, data, accessories and the research stack is now easily accessible to an expanded range of partners, developers and researchers.

Sensor SDK: Powering healthcare development with advanced sensor technology

The Sensors SDK provides developers with the Galaxy Watch’s powerful BioActive sensor algorithm, allowing them to explore new healthcare service sectors and create new advanced solutions. The BioActive sensor measures a wide variety of health parameters, including heart rate, skin temperature, electrocardiogram (ECG), and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). A notable update allows continued access to infrared (IR) and red LED photoplethysmographic (PPG) sensor data for the first time. This advancement will help improve health services related to blood oxygen level (SpO2) to improve sleep quality and beyond. The enhanced BIA now provides additional measurements – magnitude and degree – expanding the existing eight indicators, including skeletal muscle mass and body fat mass, to present a more accurate analysis of body composition to offer deeper insights into the overall physical health.

Data SDK: Comprehensive health information unlocks new value in healthcare

Starting in October, the newly added Data SDK allows developers to use integrated health data from various devices such as Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Ring, smartphones or even third-party devices to create health solutions innovative digital technology. The Data SDK provides access to health parameters in the Samsung Health app – including sleep, exercise, blood pressure, diet and blood glucose levels – analyzed by its advanced algorithm. This synthesized information generated by Samsung Health allows developers to improve their productivity when developing healthcare services.

SDK accessories: comprehensive health information from various health devices in one place

With SDK accessories, developers can integrate third-party compatible health devices – such as blood pressure monitors, fitness devices like cycling sensors, heart rate monitors and even blood glucose monitors – through the Samsung Health app. This makes it easier to view health information in one place without enabling separate third-party applications, promoting a seamless, simplified experience and expanding the ecosystem for holistic health management.

Research Stack: empowering research institutions to better support the health sector

Research Stack is an open source project that aims to grow the digital health research ecosystem. Research Stack creates a flexible and versatile research environment, providing not only the mobile application and wearable SDK, but also a web portal and backend services, to support all stages of the research process, from recruitment and surveys to follow-up progress and monitoring results. The updated version of Research Stack has a comprehensive toolset developed based on valuable feedback from research institutions and their experiences in implementing large-scale and complex studies. Additionally, the upcoming version 2.0 will directly integrate the Health SDK sensors and data SDK. Research Stack has already been used by leading institutions as part of their research and discovery processes, highlighting Samsung’s active support to the healthcare industry, providing researchers with more efficient studies and important results.
