Shooting in Marseille: two men were shot dead in a bar in the northern districts, drug trafficking trail considered

Bullet shots left two victims this Thursday, November 14 around 7:45 p.m. in a bar in a northern district of Marseille. The Marseille firefighters indicated that they intervened on rue de la Carrière in the 14th arrondissement of the city, for two men hit by these bullets, who died at the scene.

The 14th arrondissement covers a good part of the “northern districts” of France's second city, several of which are ravaged by poverty and trafficking. The two victims are aged just under 30 and were known for cases linked to drug trafficking, according to sources close to the investigation.

Marseille is the epicenter of drug-related violence in France, with a record 49 deaths in 2023. If these two new deaths were officially confirmed as linked to drug trafficking, this toll would rise to 19 deaths in Marseille since the start of the year. This new shooting comes less than a week after a trip by the Ministers of Justice and the Interior Didier Migaud and Bruno Retailleau to Marseille, where they established the fight against drug trafficking as a “national cause”.
