Republicans secure majority in the House of Representatives

The Republicans secured control of the US Congress, after managing to maintain a majority in the House of Representatives by winning the required 218 seats, compared to 208 for their Democratic rivals.

With this victory, Donald Trump’s party holds control of the three levers of power in Washington: the presidency, the Senate (53 against 47 seats) and the House of Representatives (lower house of Congress).

This control guarantees the Grand Old Party easier decision-making on key issues such as government financing, debt ceiling negotiations and foreign aid, but also confirmation in high office.

At the same time, the wave of Republicans dampens the Democrats’ hopes of using the lower house, over which they lost control in 2022, to block, or at least delay, the full deployment of President-elect Donald’s program. Trump.

“President Trump wants to be aggressive. He wants to think big and we are excited about that. We will be able to play the offense,” Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson told Fox News.

With counting underway in nine districts, Republicans could win more seats, and thus compensate for the three members of the lower house appointed by President Trump to serve in his new administration.
