Morocco sends aid consisting of 25 trucks and 70 workers

Morocco has sent a convoy of 25 fire trucks from the north of the country to provide assistance to Spain which has been facing devastating floods since the end of last month. The Kingdom was one of the first countries to offer aid to Spain after this natural disaster.

A large convoy of Moroccan trucks arrived this Wednesday at the port of Motril (Granada) and bound for Valencia, the locality most affected by the floods in the Iberian country.

The Spanish government officially accepted the outstretched hand of Morocco which triggered emotion at the international level to the point of imposing a minute of silence for the victims of these floods in sports masses.

A press release from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior formally announced that it had accepted the Moroccan offer of assistance which should act in the southeast of the country. The Spanish ministry specifies that Morocco was one of the first countries to offer aid after the floods of October 29.

Indeed, on October 30, King Mohammed VI presented his condolences and solidarity with the Spanish authorities and the families of the victims and ordered Morocco to provide its support to Spain.

A press release from the Ministry of the Interior expressed the desire to send relief teams to the disaster areas. The Moroccan offer was one of the first to arrive and already 25 trucks and 70 Moroccan workers are expected to participate in the clearance and transport of sludge and waste.

For the moment, they have already started the operations of cleaning the sludge, unblocking and unclogging the pipes in order to restore the city’s sanitation system, indicates the Iberian press.

According to the government delegate in Valencia, Pilar Bernabé, Moroccan trucks have the necessary equipment to carry out the priority task, namely cleaning sludge and unblocking sewers.

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior said it was preparing the incorporation, in the next 24 or 48 hours, of dozens of operators and machines for the extraction and transport of sludge and waste from Morocco, and Portugal to recovery tasks of areas affected by damage in Valencia.

The Valencian Generalitat has accepted offers of international aid made by its neighboring countries only. In addition to the technical equipment, the system has 70 Moroccan drivers and operators and two Civil Protection officials from the Sebta Government Delegation who will lend a hand.

The Valencia region activated the European civil protection mechanism on November 8, giving rise to the solidarity of Portugal and France. Portugal provided around 20 pumps of various types and capacities, seven excavators and backhoes, as well as two loading trucks, while France sent several machines for loading and unloading sludge and waste, as well as four transport vehicles. heavy transport, designed to transport mined materials to disposal sites.

The Spanish Directorate General of Civil Protection is currently evaluating proposals for additional assistance from several European countries through the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
