China: CDG and Gotion High-Tech sign an MoU to support the Kenitra gigafactory project

Beijing – The Caisse de dépôt et de gestion (CDG) and the Gotion High-Tech group signed, on Wednesday in the city of Hefei, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) relating to support for the ongoing electric battery gigafactory of production in Kenitra.

Signed by Khalid Safir, general director of CDG, and Li Zhen, president of Gotion High-Tech, this agreement provides for an investment by CDG Invest, the investment branch of CDG, in the capital of the company Gotion Power Morocco, via its fund dedicated to industry called NAMA, indicates a press release from the Moroccan group.

This MoU, concluded during a working visit by a CDG delegation to the headquarters of Gotion High-Tech in Hefei, follows the signing, on June 6, of an investment agreement between the Moroccan government and the Sino-European group, adds the press release.

Gotion High-Tech’s integrated gigafactory project is part of the Kingdom’s strategy aimed at developing a true industrial ecosystem of sustainable mobility and preparing the Moroccan automotive sector for the era of electrification, in line with the vision strategy of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Led by Gotion Power Morocco, this project consists of the creation of an integrated gigafactory platform, the first phase of which will include a production capacity of 20 GWh of lithium-ion battery cells and packs, ESS (Energy Storage System) batteries. , and 200,000 tons of cathode materials.

This first phase will require a total investment of around 13 billion dirhams and will allow the creation of 2,300 jobs.

The new partnership concluded between CDG and Gotion High-Tech confirms the Moroccan group’s vocation to support the Kingdom’s major projects and structuring projects, thus consecrating its status as a leading institutional investor supporting the dynamic of structural transformation of the national economy. .
