The Canadiens players took advantage of a day off yesterday.
That said, across the NHL, there were still seven games on the schedule.
What caught the attention? Let’s see this:
1: McDavid approaches the 1000 point plateau
Before the Oilers game last night, Connor McDavid had 995 career points.
But the club captain is obviously eager to reach the 1000 point plateau because he was dominant against Patrick Roy’s Islanders.
He collected four points, including one on this magical sequence:
The Islanders did everything they could to stay in the game and were able to force overtime.
But obviously… It was the Oilers captain who stood up again.
He was an accomplice on Leon Draisaitl’s goal, which gave the Oilers a 4-3 victory:
Connor McDavid (one goal and three assists) participated in all four of his team’s goals.
He now has 999 points on the clock… And he could get his 1000th tomorrow, when the poor Predators will visit Edmonton.
It promises!
2: The Jets are too strong
For real… The Jets are starting to look really, really impressive.
Since the start of the season, there is no club (except the Leafs) that has been able to beat them… And the Jets had a big test last night, while they were at Madison Square Garden to play the victory to the mighty Rangers.
But the Jets were never afraid and they even won by a score of 6-3 against the Blue Shirts :
The Jets are now 15-1-0… And they are obviously sitting in first place in the overall NHL standings.
They also became the fastest team in the NHL to reach 15 wins in a season.
3: A victory that will do the Bruins good
In Boston, things don’t go as planned.
The Bruins are disappointing despite the club’s big acquisitions last summer and we are even starting to hear that Jim Montgomery could lose his job because things are going so badly.
On the other hand, last night in Saint-Louis, the big guns rose.
The Bruins started the third period trailing 2-0 and managed to come back into the game to win 3-2.
David Pastrnak played the hero at the end of the match using a cannonball:
A goal and an assist for Pastrnak in the match… Just like Charlie McAvoy.
This victory will really do good for morale among the Bruins.
4: NHL Fight of the Year
The name Jonah Gadjovich probably doesn’t mean much to you.
But you will remember it after seeing his fight yesterday with Brendon Dillon.
And I’m not saying anything:
Phew…
This is truly a heavyweight fight. And let’s just say I would have passed!
Note that it was the Devils who won the game, thereby stopping the Florida Panthers’ seven-game winning streak.
We remember this magnificent goal scored by Paul Cotter with a simply violent shot:
5: Linus Ullmark has found his game again
Last night we witnessed the Battle of Ontario between the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Tim Stützle played his 300th career match and he took the opportunity to score two goals.
This one is worth sharing:
But what is important to know about this game is that Linus Ullmark was perfect against the big Leafs attack.
He stopped all 27 shots he faced to collect his very first shutout in a Sens uniform.
And he didn’t steal his shutout:
Last week, Ullmark said publicly that he didn’t know where his game was.
He found it, obviously, otherwise he would never have been able to clear a club like the Leafs.
So much the better for the Sens, who won by a score of 3-0.
