After Benin, Marsa Maroc drops anchor in Liberia

After Benin, Marsa Maroc is accelerating its international development with this new memorandum of understanding which establishes a strategic partnership between the NPA and Marsa Maroc to modernize and expand the main ports of Liberia as part of a master development plan overall.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the NPA headquarters, marks an important milestone for Liberia and Marsa Morocco, with two main projects aimed at improving port capacities.

Development and operation of a new multi-purpose terminal at the Port of Monrovia

The partnership aims to obtain a public-private partnership (PPP) concession to develop a modern multi-purpose terminal.

This terminal will be able to accommodate a diverse range of cargo, including dry bulk and general cargo, thereby improving the operational efficiency and service capacity of the main port of Monrovia.

Buchanan Port Concession Agreement

The partnership also aims to enhance the Port of Buchanan’s multi-purpose terminal, including the design, construction, financing and management of this critical infrastructure to facilitate efficient cargo handling and support economic growth in the region.

The MoU, lasting 18 months, establishes a framework for collaboration between the two entities to evaluate current port operations, share expertise and finalize concession agreements. Marsa Maroc strategically aligns its growth with Liberia’s ambitious development goals, providing its expertise in sustainable and innovative port operations.

The Director General of the NPA, Mr. Sekou H. Dukuly, signing on behalf of the NPA, highlighted the importance of the MoU and the partnership it fosters. “This MoU marks an exciting chapter for Liberia’s ports infrastructure, affirming the NPA’s commitment to transforming port services for sustainable growth and regional integration,” he lamented. Mr. Dukuly said that with the expertise of Marsa Maroc, the NPA is confident in its ability to deliver projects that will position Liberia’s ports as key logistics hubs in West Africa.

Under this MoU, the NPA and Marsa Maroc will exchange information and collaborate on project assessments, with a view to reaching detailed agreements that will further improve Liberia’s port landscape. The projects will adhere to rigorous design, operation and management standards to ensure world-class port services.

For his part, the director of strategy and port development of Marsa Maroc, Reda Moukhli, said that the signing of the memorandum of understanding paves the way for a closer partnership and will play a central role in achieving the vision of the Liberia for modernized, efficient and competitive port operations, promoting economic development and elevating Liberia’s position in regional trade.

He also said the signing of the MoU reflects the NPA’s commitment to drive Liberia’s economic progress by building strong partnerships with international stakeholders.
