This campaign mainly targets people at risk: those over 60, people with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, healthcare professionals and flight crew.
According to the 2023-2024 health report in Polynesia, 259 people were hospitalized and 11 deaths were linked to the flu, 75 hospitalizations and 3 deaths were due to Covid-19. The JN.1 variant of the coronavirus continues to circulate in the territory.
Both vaccines can be administered simultaneously. Vaccination is free for priority populations in public health centers and approved pharmacies in Tahiti and the Leeward Islands. Other people can purchase vaccines freely.
Health authorities insist on maintaining barrier gestures (wearing a mask, washing hands) in addition to vaccination.
As a reminder, the flu manifests itself with high fever, headache, cough and muscle pain. Serious complications are possible, particularly in vulnerable people.
