(Keystone-ATS) “Traffic has resumed on the A9. Repair work is completed on the two army trucks that collided, thanks to a 50-ton crane transported to the site, said Kathleen Pralong-Cornaille, spokesperson for the Valais police, contacted by Keystone-ATS.
The two trucks were each carrying a tank on a trailer and the second collided with the one in front of it, she explained. One of the armored tanks moved and had to be put back into place. In the case of the second truck, the trailer was damaged and the tank had to be extricated, she explained.
The accident happened shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. During the repair intervention which lasted several hours, the highway between Sion-Est and Sierre-Ouest was completely closed in both directions. Traffic was severely disrupted.
For its part, the army confirms that the damage is only material and that no person was injured during this accident, according to its spokesperson Delphine Schwab-Allemand.
The military police went to the site and are working with the Valais police. An investigation will be opened to determine the circumstances of this accident.
