The guys from Kaïn will take the stage at 9:30 p.m. on December 31, after performances by the pop-rock group Bobo OnO and the Gaspé folk group Quimorucru, while the guys from la Bottine, always in high demand around New Year’s Eve, will follow at 11 p.m. and until midnight: thirty on January 1st.
Even though their figurehead and founding member Yves Lambert left the ship in 2002, La Bottine Souriante continues touring under the musical direction of violinist David Bélanger and with the voices of multi-instrumentalists Éric Beaudry and Jean-François Gagnon-Branchaud.
The group also launched its fourteenth studio album last year, entitled Domino!, the first since 2012. Saxophonist Jean Fréchette and trombonists Bob Ellis and André Verreault, who all joined the group in 1990, are the oldest members of this legendary traditional Music ensemble which was founded in 1976.
“Last year, we mixed electro and Quebec music in front of the National Assembly with Les Louanges and this year, we decided to keep this stage for Quebec music while the electro shows will take place at Place George V. Music Quebecois is in high demand for Toboggan. We know that people would have enjoyed more last year and we also know that electro music is essential for our New Year’s activities because it is festive music,” explains Louis Bellavance, director of programming at the FEQ and de Toboggan, who had reserved La Bottine Souriante for several months.
Place George V
At Place George V, Quebec DJ Cece the Red will launch the festivities on December 29, followed by the Mexican electropop duo Le Twins, made up of twins Karla and Karen de la Garza Salinas, by the British DJ Jonas Blue, well known for his plays Perfect Strangers, Mama et By Your Side as well as for his revival of the piece Fast Cars by Tracy Chapman. “Jonas Blue has hundreds of millions of views and billions of listens online, whereas we had already tried to get Le Twins for the FEQ in the past,” notes Louis Bellavance.
December 30 will be dedicated to hip-hop music as DJ Mika and Mr. Sauga will open the evening, followed by Toronto rapper Haviah Mighty, the first woman to win the Juno for rap album of the year in 2022, and by rapper bbno$, from Vancouver, whose pieces Get worsewith Y2K, Carly Rae Jepsen and Enrique Iglesias, and Edamamefeaturing Rich Brian, reached tenth and thirteenth place on the Canadian Hot 100 chart in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
On December 31, Place George V will host American DJs Freak On and Surf Mesa while Belgian DJ Anouk Matton, aka MATTN, will then be responsible for hosting the New Year on this stage. The 31-year-old DJ with the face of a top model won the prize for best Belgian artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2019.
During the day, screenings of classic holiday films will also take place at Place George V with outdoor fireplaces, relaxation areas, hot chocolate and cookies, a new feature this year thanks to the arrival of the Leclerc group as a partner. of Slide.
Paid areas
Furthermore, even if Toboggan remains a free festival, the organization has decided to bring back this year the paid zones which had been tested in 2022 and left aside last year. Thus, a few hundred tickets will be on sale in the Gold and Silver zones, in the Groupe Voyages Québec stands and in the Kepler Gin Lounge, a formula that works well at the Summer Festival.
“It’s something that’s been asked of us a lot for the last two years, so we’re bringing it back this year. The festivities will remain free, but people who wish to have access to exclusive areas with reserved seats and exclusive bars located near the stage will be able to do so,” concludes Nicolas Racine, CEO of the FEQ.
