Lawyers suspend strike after opening dialogue with Ministry of Justice

CThis meeting made it possible to set up thematic commissions and institutionalize the dialogue between the Moroccan Bar Association and the ministry through a precise timetable which will be implemented from November 15, 2024.

During this same meeting, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice submitted the draft laws to the President of the Association, while the latter submitted the complete claim file relating to the status of the legal profession, to the draft of law on civil procedure, in the legal aid file, in the file of the general mutual of the bars of Morocco and in the tax file.

The subjects to be studied concerning these files have been defined, as well as those relating to digitalization and modernization, and to the bill on criminal procedure.

At the end of this meeting, all participants welcomed the serious nature of the debates and the constructive atmosphere that prevailed, reaffirming their commitment to implementing the agreements that will be concluded during the next meetings, in the service of justice and in full respect for legislative power.

A detailed report of this meeting was drawn up and signed by both parties.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Bureau of the Association continued its open meeting at the headquarters of the Association, discussing the activist journey followed by the Association, with the commitment of lawyers and their bars, and the support of all political, civil, human rights and media forces.

This journey culminated in the launch of dialogue sessions with the mediation of the justice and legislation committees within the House of Representatives and the House of Advisors, and the signing of the joint declaration whose implementation has started today.

After highlighting the first positive indicators of this journey and the concrete initiatives of the Ministry of Justice aimed at establishing bases of trust, a spirit of cooperation and complementarity between it and the Association, the Minister of Justice having publicly affirmed the honorable status of the legal profession and its central role within the judicial system, is committed to implementing the agreements reached by both parties.

Wishing to react positively to these signals, and in order to create a climate conducive to the success of the dialogue sessions and the implementation of the agreements which will be concluded in a spirit of responsibility and mutual commitment, the Office of the Association has decided to suspend, as of today, the decision to completely cease defense activities.

On this occasion, the Office of the Association salutes the unprecedented mobilization of all lawyers around their professional institutions, as well as the considerable sacrifices they have made across the Kingdom.

This mobilization has given back to the legal profession its prestige and its natural role within society.

The Office also reaffirms its commitment to defending all of its demands and renews its commitment to honoring all the commitments it has made since its inauguration.

It calls on all lawyers to remain vigilant and to preserve the unity of the profession, by deploying all necessary efforts for constant and responsible mobilization, and to protect professional achievements and serve the interests of the profession.”
