A large private medical clinic for sale in Montreal

One of Quebec’s largest private medical clinics, located in Montreal, has been put up for sale, leaving tens of thousands of patients in limbo.

The Angus Medical Clinic, in the borough of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, has been put up for sale by the company Tootelo due to “financial challenges linked to its operation”, it has been confirmed to TVA Nouvelles.

This sale has raised several concerns, both among patients and employees. The clinic has around forty general practitioners and around sixty specialists, serving nearly 37,000 patients.

The Tootelo company assured that it had informed employees of the clinic’s sale at the end of October, specifying no risk of closure or job loss.

QS health spokesperson Vincent Marissal reacted to the news. “We have investors who are not doctors or nurses who invest to make money and, at a certain point, they no longer make enough for their liking, even if they are largely subsidized, and they close. […] There are people who are left behind in this. The 37,000 patients, but also the employees,” he declared.

As for the office of the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, we note “monitoring the situation closely to ensure the continuity of services offered by these clinics for patients” in a statement sent to TVA Nouvelles.

“In the event of a possible transfer, we expect that services will be maintained, and that the transition will have no impact on patients,” it continued.
