(Montreal) Director Érik Canuel, to whom we owe the successful films Red nose And Good Cop Bap Copdied on Saturday.

He died of secondary plasma cell leukemia, the agency announced Monday. He had fought for more than seven years against multiple myeloma, but it was ultimately this “rapid” leukemia which won him, it was clarified.
Érik Canuel is at the origin of several films, including Pig’s Law in 2001, Red nose in 2003 and The Surprising in 2005.
In 2003 he also directed the film The last tunnel, with Michel Côté and Jean Lapointe, which earned the latter two awards for his supporting performance. The film told the story of criminal Marcel Talon, who attempted to rob a bank by digging a tunnel.
It is, however, his comedy action film Good Cop Bad Copfrom 2006, which will be his greatest success, the feature film becoming the most lucrative in Canadian history.
The story between police officers David Bouchard (Patrick Huard) and Martin Ward (Colm Feore) also generated a sequel in 2017, directed by Alain Desrochers, and a television series which has not yet been broadcast.
Érik Canuel has also directed television series, including Transplant, Ransom And Flashpoint.
A ceremony is to be organized soon to mark his memory, but the details are not yet known.
